Pearl LuVay Haiwick, 98, of Belle Fourche and formerly of Highmore, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with Pastor David Peterson officiating. Burial followed at the Highmore Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2012 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Pearl LuVay was born July 20, 1913 to Hans and Anna (Swanson) Hjordt in Highmore, South Dakota. She attended rural school in Douglas Township and one year at Highmore High School. Pearl married Leonard Haiwick on September 1, 1942 and to this union, one son, Marlyn, was born. Pearl enjoyed helping with the farm work, driving tractors, milking cows, taking care of livestock, etc. She also enjoyed playing the piano, painting pictures on rocks, canvass, shingles and more. Pearl played piano for the Edwin and Sedgwick Church’s for many years. She was a Sunday School Teacher and belonged to the Ruth Circle. Pearl moved to the Black Hills in 2006 and enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include her son Marlyn and wife Judy (Fischer) Haiwick; grandchildren: Bob (Gina) Haiwick, Tammy (Chris) Olson, Heidy (Butch) Crawford, and Cody (Julee Lueders) Haiwick; great grandchildren: Ashley (Joshua) McNeese, Andrea Stark, Alyssa Pearl; Cully, Kaden, Kelton and Camden Olson; Payton LuVay, Coewyn and Brazen Crawford, and Tailee and Taivin Haiwick; great-great grandchildren: Felix McNeese and Adilee Stark; sister-in-law, Lucille Myers; niece, Noreen Nickelson; nephews. Ken (Millie) Raske and Ernie (Jenny) Engle; and many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Leonard; parents, Hans and Anna; brothers: Norman and Vernon; sister, Esther (Dick) Raske and sister-in-law, Ruby (Haiwick) Hjordt.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Pearl's arrangements.
