Leona Anna (Vopat) Traver, 98, of Faulkton, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the United Church of Faulkton with Rev. Julie Nygaard officiating. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation was held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Leona Anna Vopat was born February 9, 1914 in Hyde County, South Dakota to Joseph T. and Emma (Rezac) Vopat. She attended rural country school and Highmore High School.

Leona was united in marriage on August 29, 1934 to Cecil Traver in Pierre, SD. They lived in Hyde County and Potter County and in 1942 purchased a farm in Faulk County where they made their home and raised four sons. Cecil passed away in 1987. Leona continued to live on the farm until 2011. She had a stroke just after her 97th birthday, this required her to have increased care and she entered the Faulkton Healthcare Center in March where she remained until the time of her death.

In her spare time Leona enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, sewing, cooking, and above all completing crossword puzzles. She also loved watching baseball games in Seneca, during the time her husband and sons played. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and served for many years as a 4-H Leader. Leona will be remembered as a wonderful lady!  She never had a harsh word to speak and always was able to find good in others.

Leona’s life will be remembered by her sons: Royal of Faulkton, Larry of Sturgis, Gene of Faulkton and Ronald of Lantry; her grandchildren: Deb (Bill) Clement, Donna (Ed) Bellack, Lee Traver, Jay (Sallie) Traver, Jennifer Traver, Vicki Flanders, Debbie Taylor, Denise Traver, Nancy Traver and Natalie (Steve) Faber; great grandchildren: Dustin (Michelle) Clement, Kelli (Sam) Schaefers, Kayla (Todd) Hanson, Beau Bellack, Justin, Heather, and Faith Walker, Crystal Pfeifer, and Levi and Cassie Faber; great-great grandchildren: Dominic & Isaac Clement, Olivia & Noah Schaefers, Eleanor Hanson, Justine, Jordan, Nicholas & Colton Walker; brother, Alvin Vopat of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Katherine Vopat of Faulkton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; great grandson, Shadoe Allen Pfeifer; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Traver; brother, Lambert Vopat; sister-in-law, June Vopat; nephew, Roger Vopat and niece, Mary Ann Witte.
