Wayne Bernard Hamlin was born November 3, 1926 to Wallace & Elsie (Samp) Hamlin at Holabird, SD. He attended grade school in Holabird and Highmore High School.

Wayne enlisted in 1949 with the United States Army, serving one year in Korea. He was honorably discharged December 11, 1951.

When they first moved to Highmore, he did some custom farm work and later worked as a custodian for the Highmore School, Highmore Golf Course and the Hyde County ASCS office and in his spare time he would buy, remodel, and sell homes. In his retirement you could find him enjoying a cup of coffee at the City Shop or Pioneer Garage where he was able to visit with many friends.

Wayne’s life will be cherished by his wife Leona of Highmore; his children: Ward (Tonita) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bruce (Jane) of Bellevue, NE, Cathy (Arlyn) Groen of Sioux Falls, Mark (Tina) of Highmore, Sharon Boekelheide of Northville and Pam (Robert) Andersen of Howard; 17 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his brothers: Richard of Highmore and Leonard (Eunice) of Ocean Park, WA; sister, Elaine (Les) Ashdown of Highmore and sister-in-law, Ruth Hamlin of Arlington, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Elsie; his brother, Jack; sister-in-law, Isabelle Hamlin; brothers-in-law, Frederick Hale and Donald Heying; and nephew Pat Hale.
